An unfortunate consequence of rising Carbon Dioxide levels since the Industrial Revolution is the seemingly unending nagging towards everyone about the effects of our industrial life on the planet we live in.
Unfortunately, this problem will not go away and this will continue to be a constant annoyance to us citizens of the world. Talks, speeches, and posters that chip away at your important time will end up being the norm until something is done about it. This never-ending supply of useless statistics and information will also all be aggravated by generative AI such as ChatGPT or Gemini ruining the planet too, which use liters of water for every 10 queries or so, not to mention training costs of millions of liters. This means not just environmentalists, but anyone who cares about the state of the inescapable planet we live on will begin to bombard the public space with information and, god forbid, even start to take action.
I’m here to argue that this is all pointless and detracts from the greater good of the community. Even if the planet’s temperatures are rising, leading to catastrophic environmental failures, this is not something to panic the public about. Additionally, if the people become informed about the impacts of their digitally indulgent lives, they might even be ethically split between the future of their planet and the convenience of outsourcing their critical thinking to a predictive text model.
To conclude, we as a society need to collectively ignore all the information campaigns and lessons taught to us about saving the future of our planet. This could even escalate to real action for the planet being done, but luckily we aren’t there yet, and it doesn’t look like that will happen anytime soon.
